{"id":7243,"date":"2019-04-16T14:49:37","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T21:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7243"},"modified":"2019-04-16T14:49:39","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T21:49:39","slug":"phase-1-of-north-1st-street-revitalization-project-progressing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/phase-1-of-north-1st-street-revitalization-project-progressing\/","title":{"rendered":"Phase 1 of North 1st Street Revitalization Project Progressing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The first of three phases of the\nNorth 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street Revitalization Project got underway about a month\nago.&nbsp; Crews continue to focus on the\ninstallation of new underground utilities, including water and sewer pipes,\nduring the early stages of construction on Phase 1 of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tapani Inc, based\nin Battleground, Washington, is the general contractor for\nPhase 1 of the project. As has been the case over the past few weeks, Tapani\ncrews are currently working on removing pavement and excavating trenches to\naccommodate the new utility infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least one lane\nof traffic in each direction will be open most of the time during the current\nstage of Phase 1.&nbsp; Traffic may be\ninterrupted completely from time to time, but construction crews are making\nevery effort to maintain at least one lane of traffic both northbound and\nsouthbound throughout the project area as much as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North 1<sup>st<\/sup>\nStreet Revitalization Project is intended to improve safety for drivers and\npedestrians and increase the economic development potential of the North 1<sup>st<\/sup>\nStreet corridor, one of the main entrances to the city.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 1 includes improvements being made between Highway 12 to the north and about N\nStreet to the south. It is estimated to cost about $3.3\nmillion and is being paid for mostly with federal and state funds.&nbsp; Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed by the\nend of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 2 includes improvements from about N Street to the north to about I Street to the\nsouth. It is scheduled to begin in spring 2020 and be completed by the end of that\nyear.&nbsp; Phase 2, which is estimated to\ncost about $3 million, will be paid for mostly from revenues generated through\na $20 annual car tab fee adopted by the Yakima City Council during its 2018\nbudget process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 3 includes improvements from about I Street to the north to MLK Jr. Boulevard to the\nsouth.
