{"id":7283,"date":"2019-05-02T09:27:13","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T16:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7283"},"modified":"2019-05-02T09:32:25","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T16:32:25","slug":"state-honors-yakima-water-irrigation-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/state-honors-yakima-water-irrigation-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"State Honors Yakima Water\/Irrigation Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A City of Yakima employee is among those being honored by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) next week for their efforts to provide safe and reliable drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakima Water\/Irrigation Manager Dave Brown will receive the DOH&#8217;s Commitment to Excellence Award during the Yakima City Council&#8217;s regular meeting at 5:30 pm next Tuesday, May 7<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is\nexciting to see DOH recognize Dave for his good work,&#8221; said Scott Schafer,\nDirector of Public Works for the City of Yakima. &#8220;I appreciate his ongoing\nefforts for the City of Yakima and its residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown is being\nhonored for efforts that include playing a key role recently in assisting two\nfailing water systems in the area and helping them find a safe, reliable water\nsource.&nbsp; Brown was nominated for this\naward by the City\u2019s Water\/Irrigation staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown also\nchairs the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan\nWater Use committee and is a board member of several other entities and boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown has\nworked for the City of Yakima for 35 years. He began his career with the City as\na Water Treatment Plant Supervisor and worked his way up to his present\nposition. He teaches certification training and is invested in his staff\u2019s\nadvancement and career goals. &#8220;He provides steady, reliable leadership in\ntimes of crisis,&#8221; the DOH said of Brown in announcing the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor\nJay Inslee has proclaimed May 5<sup>th<\/sup> through 11<sup>th<\/sup>\n&#8220;Drinking Water Week&#8221; in the state of Washington. In his\nproclamation, Inslee noted, &#8220;\u2026what we do today to protect our drinking\nwater and invest in the infrastructure that delivers it will affect the prosperity\nand well-being of future generations.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown\n(Commitment to Excellence) is one of seven &#8220;2019 Drinking Water Week Award\nWinners&#8221; that will be honored next week by DOH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The others\nare Peggy Barton, director of Washington Certification Services at Auburn Green\nRiver College (Lifetime Achievement); City of Spokane (Commitment to\nExcellence); City of Anacortes (Most Innovative); and Emilia Blake, Water\nQuality coordinator for Skagit Public Utilities (Commitment to Excellence).
