{"id":7445,"date":"2019-06-14T13:26:14","date_gmt":"2019-06-14T20:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7445"},"modified":"2019-06-14T13:26:15","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T20:26:15","slug":"multiple-agencies-partnering-on-operation-invictus-to-fight-violent-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/multiple-agencies-partnering-on-operation-invictus-to-fight-violent-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"Multiple Agencies Partnering on Operation Invictus to Fight Violent Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Yakima Police Department\n(YPD) and a dozen other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are\njoining together for what\u2019s being called <em>Operation\nInvictus<\/em>, a targeted effort to identify,\nlocate, and apprehend violent crime fugitives throughout the Central Washington\nregion this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the YPD, local law\nenforcement agencies participating in <em>Operation\nInvictus<\/em> include the Yakima County\nSheriff\u2019s Office, the Union Gap Police Department, the Kennewick Police\nDepartment, the Benton County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the Yakima County Prosecutor\u2019s\nOffice, and the Yakama Nation Department of Public Safety.&nbsp; The Washington State Department of\nCorrections Community Response Unit is also part of the effort.&nbsp; Federal partners include the FBI, the federal\nBureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the U.S. Drug Enforcement\nAdministration, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Pacific Northwest Violent\nOffender Task Force, and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office.&nbsp; The Washington State Fusion Center, which\nsupports public safety and homeland security missions of federal, state, local,\nand tribal agencies, and Maike and Associates, a research consulting firm, are\nalso part of the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of <em>Operation Invictus<\/em>,\nwhich is an element of Project Safe Neighborhoods and the Violent Crime\nReduction Initiative, is simple \u2013 make communities safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe combined resources,\nknowledge, and expertise of the various agencies that are partnering in this operation\nare significant,\u201d said Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray.&nbsp; \u201cTogether, we\u2019ll concentrate on apprehending\nviolent crime offenders who have warrants for their arrest.&nbsp; Taking those offenders off of the street will\nhave an immediate impact in making the communities of Central Washington\nsafer,\u201d said Murray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Murray underscored that\nimmigration enforcement is not an element of the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of the agencies involved in\nthe operation are focused on apprehending known, violent fugitives regardless\nof their residency status,\u201d said Murray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of a violent crime fugitive is encouraged to contact the Yakima Police Department at (509) 575-6200 or by calling 9-1-1.
