{"id":7451,"date":"2019-06-17T12:30:44","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T19:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7451"},"modified":"2019-06-17T12:30:46","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T19:30:46","slug":"bus-to-pool-program-begins-june-20th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/bus-to-pool-program-begins-june-20th\/","title":{"rendered":"Bus to Pool Program Begins June 20th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima Transit and Yakima Parks\nand Recreation are again teaming up to make it easier for swimmers to use\nFranklin Pool and Lions Pool this summer thanks to the Bus to Pool Program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting this Thursday, June 20<sup>th<\/sup>\nand continuing each Thursday through August 25<sup>th<\/sup>, paying to swim in\none of Yakima&#8217;s two City-owned pools entitles the purchaser to a special Yakima\nTransit bus pass at no cost to and from the pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bus service will be provided\nfrom Kissel Park, 1525 S 32nd Avenue, &nbsp;every Thursday at\n12:30 pm and head to Franklin Pool. The bus will also pick up passengers along\nMead Avenue and 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue eastbound. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a win-win situation\nfor everyone,&#8221; said Yakima Transit Manager Alvie Maxey. &#8220;Bus\nridership is lower in the summertime when school is out, so there are seats\navailable to handle swimmers. We like to be involved in programs that increase\nbus ridership and, hopefully, get more people in the habit of hopping on the\nbus to get where they want to go. It&#8217;s a natural partnership between Yakima\nTransit and Yakima Parks and Rec,&#8221; said Maxey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lack of transportation often\nprevents kids and adults from being able to swim as much as they would like\nduring the summer months.&nbsp; &#8220;This\nhelps solve that problem,&#8221; says Yakima Parks and Recreation Manager Ken\nWilkinson. &#8220;We are very excited about the opportunity to increase the\nnumber of people utilizing our pools.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional bus information is\navailable on the Yakima Transit website at <a href=\"https:\/\/yakimatransit.org\/\">https:\/\/yakimatransit.org\/<\/a> or by calling 575-6175.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yakimaparks.com\/aquatics\/\">http:\/\/www.yakimaparks.com\/aquatics\/<\/a> for more about City of Yakima swimming\nprograms.
