The grant was announced during\nthe City of Yakima&#8217;s Historic Preservation Commission meeting on June 26<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The grant will be used to\nbuild an inventory of historical buildings on Naches Avenue,&#8221; said\nAssociate Planner Trevor Martin, the Historic Preservation Commission&#8217;s staff\nliaison. &#8220;Depending on how well preserved they are, Naches Avenue could\nthen be nominated to the Local Register of Historic Places to develop an\nawareness of the area and preserve its historic integrity.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naches Avenue is one of Yakima&#8217;s\noldest residential areas. In June 2018, the City received a $12,000 DAHP grant for &#8220;Fruit Row,&#8221; a row of fruit and ag-related facilities on First Avenue from Yakima Avenue up to D Street that dates back to the early 1900s.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That grant was used to build an inventory of historical buildings on &#8220;Fruit Row&#8221; and then examine the condition of the buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results of the grant-funded\n&#8220;Fruit Row&#8221; research were unveiled during the June 26<sup>th<\/sup>\nHistoric Preservation Commission meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We felt very strongly that\nthere is a potential National Register Historic District tied in within the\nsurvey area,&#8221; Spencer Howard of Northwest Vernacular, Inc. said during the\nJune 26<sup>th<\/sup> &#8220;Fruit Row&#8221; presentation.
