{"id":7669,"date":"2019-08-12T09:53:46","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T16:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7669"},"modified":"2019-08-12T09:58:09","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T16:58:09","slug":"one-way-traffic-changes-on-jerome-avenue-fairbanks-avenue-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/one-way-traffic-changes-on-jerome-avenue-fairbanks-avenue-2\/","title":{"rendered":"One-Way Traffic Changes on Jerome Avenue, Fairbanks Avenue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sections of Jerome Avenue and Fairbanks Avenue in the\nvicinity of Garfield Elementary School will be subject to one-way traffic\nrestrictions effective Thursday, August 15<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning August 15<sup>th<\/sup>, traffic on Jerome Avenue will be one-way\neastbound between Campbell Lane and North 6<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue. Also as of\nthat date, Fairbanks Avenue will be one-way westbound between Custer Avenue and\n6<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The goal is to improve pedestrian and student safety near Garfield Elementary School,&#8221; said Interim Assistant City Manager Scott Schafer. &#8220;These traffic changes have been proposed by the Yakima School District, Garfield Elementary School, as well as the City of Yakima.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A public\ninformation on Safe Routes to Schools was held May 29<sup>th<\/sup> at Garfield\nElementary School. At that meeting, the City provided opportunity for the\ncommunity to comment on the one-way proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima City Council then formally approved the traffic\nrevisions on Jerome Avenue and Fairbanks Avenue during the Council&#8217;s regular\nmeeting on July 16<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The one-way traffic changes are part of overall pedestrian and transportation\nimprovements in the vicinity of Garfield Elementary School.
