{"id":7740,"date":"2019-09-09T12:39:43","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T19:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7740"},"modified":"2019-09-09T12:47:07","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T19:47:07","slug":"ceremony-planned-for-franklin-park-pickleball-courts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/ceremony-planned-for-franklin-park-pickleball-courts\/","title":{"rendered":"Ceremony Planned for Franklin Park Pickleball Courts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>State legislators\nwill be on hand this Wednesday, September 11<sup>th<\/sup>, when the City of\nYakima holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new pickleball courts\nat Franklin Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Curtis King,\nRep. Gina Mosbrucker, and Rep. Chris Corry are all scheduled to attend the\nceremony at 4:00 pm this Wednesday at Franklin Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Kathy Coffey and City Councilmember Kay Funk will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and are also scheduled to speak.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pickleball\ncourts opened in July and were made possible by extensive volunteer labor and\nfinancial donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The volunteers and staff\ngave many hours of time to the project,&#8221; said Parks and Recreation Manager\nKen Wilkinson. &#8220;It is a great addition to our park system and has already\nbeen appreciated and utilized by so many people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The courts are available at no\ncharge on a first-come, first-served basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work began in early\nJune to convert three of the six tennis courts at Franklin Park into eight courts\nfor pickleball, a fast growing sport that combines elements of tennis,\nbadminton and ping-pong.
