{"id":7804,"date":"2019-09-30T16:22:16","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T23:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7804"},"modified":"2019-09-30T16:22:17","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T23:22:17","slug":"one-of-three-interim-city-manager-candidates-to-be-interviewed-withdraws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/one-of-three-interim-city-manager-candidates-to-be-interviewed-withdraws\/","title":{"rendered":"One of Three Interim City Manager Candidates to be Interviewed Withdraws"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of the three interim city manager candidates the Yakima\nCity Council intended to interview on October 1<sup>st<\/sup> has accepted\nanother position and, therefore, has withdrawn from consideration for the\nYakima job.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Larry Patterson contacted the City earlier today (Monday,\nSeptember 30<sup>th<\/sup>) to provide notification that he is no longer\navailable for employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City Council is still scheduled to interview two candidates\nwho have applied to serve as interim city manager on Tuesday, October 1<sup>st<\/sup>\nbeginning at 4:00 pm in the Council Chambers at Yakima City Hall.&nbsp; The interviews will be conducted via Skype.&nbsp; The interviews, which will be open to the\npublic, will be telecast live on Y-PAC (Spectrum Cable channel 194) and live\nstreamed on the City\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following former City Manager Cliff Moore\u2019s resignation in\nAugust, the Council advertised the interim city manager position to Managers in\nTransition \u2013 a pool of retired municipal managers and managers who are between\npositions.&nbsp; Interim city managers\ngenerally serve on a medium-term basis \u2013 typically for several months or\nlonger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Moore\u2019s departure, Senior City Attorney Cynthia\nMartinez has been serving as interim Yakima city manager.&nbsp; The appointment of Martinez to the interim\ncity manager position was intended by the Council to be temporary while the\nCouncil conducted a process to hire an interim manager on a longer-term basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two candidates scheduled to be interviewed on October 1<sup>st<\/sup>,\nwhich were selected from a pool of 17 applicants, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alex Meyerhoff \u2013 Meyerhoff has nearly 30\nyears of experience in local government, including having served as city\nmanager\/executive director in Holtville, California (2011-2014), Hemet,\nCalifornia (2016-2017), and San Fernando, California (2017-2019).&nbsp; Meyerhoff earned a bachelor of arts in\nhistory degree from the University of California (1991) and a master of arts in\nurban planning, transportation, and environmental analysis, also from the\nUniversity of California (1993).&nbsp;\nMeyerhoff\u2019s interview will be conducted via Skype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Patrick \u2013 Patrick has more than 20\nyears of experience in local government, including having service as city\nmanager in Lebanon, Ohio (1999-2001), Vermillion, South Dakota (2002-2004),\nKalispell, Montana (2004-2008), and Storm Lake, Iowa (2010-2017).&nbsp; Patrick earned a bachelor of science in\nbiology degree from Wheaton College (1973) and a master of science in\nmanagement degree from the University of California (1988).&nbsp; Patrick\u2019s interview will be conducted via\nSkype. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City Council has not yet announced what steps will take place following Tuesday\u2019s scheduled interview session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Council-Manager form of government Yakima operates under, the City Council is responsible for hiring one staff member \u2013 the city manager.\u00a0 The city manager, who serves as the CEO of the municipal corporation and head of the executive branch of government, is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/One-Interim-Manager-Candidate-Withdraws-News-Release.pdf\">One-Interim-Manager-Candidate-Withdraws-News-Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/One-Interim-Manager-Candidate-Withdraws-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the three interim city manager candidates the Yakima City Council intended to interview on October 1st has accepted another position and, therefore, has withdrawn from consideration for the Yakima job.&nbsp; Larry Patterson contacted the City earlier today (Monday, September 30th) to provide notification that he is no longer available for employment.
