{"id":7935,"date":"2019-11-06T16:16:31","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T00:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7935"},"modified":"2019-11-06T16:16:32","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T00:16:32","slug":"second-count-of-general-election-returns-released-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/second-count-of-general-election-returns-released-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Count of General Election Returns Released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The second count of returns for the 2019 General Election have\nbeen released by the Yakima County Auditor\u2019s office, and the results have not\nchanged much from the first count of ballots on election night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the race to replace Dulce Gutierrez in Yakima City\nCouncil District 1, Kenton Gartrell has 57.38% of the vote compared to the 42.62%\nthat has gone to Elliana Macias.&nbsp; After\nthe first count last night, Gartrell led Macias 60% to 40%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In District 3, Patricia Byers leads Thomas Sund 59.37% to 40.02%.\u00a0 The first count had Byers ahead 59.10% to 40.18%.  The District 3 seat is currently held by Carmen Mendez, who chose not to run for reelection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The District 5 seat is currently held by Kathy Coffey, who\nalso is not running this time around. Soneya Lund now has 58.87% of the General\nElection vote.&nbsp; Liz Hallock trails Lund\nwith 40.36% of the vote.&nbsp; The first count\nshowed Lund with 58.85% of the vote compared to Hallock\u2019s 40.42%.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holly Cousens, who is seeking reelection to the Council\nDistrict 7 seat, has received 75.03% of the primary vote.&nbsp; Sarah Towell won the right to challenge\nCousens based on the August Primary Election vote but announced a few weeks ago\nthat she was no longer interested in serving if elected.&nbsp; Towell\u2019s announcement was made after it was\ntoo late to have her name removed from the General Election ballot.&nbsp; Towell has so far received 23.80%, which is\nthe same percentage of the vote she had after last night\u2019s first count.&nbsp; Cousens had 74.97% of the vote after the\nfirst count of ballots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I-976, a statewide ballot measure that would limit car tab fees and eliminate transportation benefit districts, is still heading toward passage.\u00a0 So far, 55.76% of voters statewide have voted against the measure compared to 44.24% who have voted in favor of it.\u00a0 After the first count on election night, the \u201cyes\u201d votes led the \u201cno\u201d votes 52.47% to 47.23%.\u00a0  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional ballot counts will be conducted over the next few days.\u00a0 Ballot counts will continue periodically until all of the ballots that were received before the midnight November 5<sup>th<\/sup> deadline have been tabulated.\u00a0 The 2019 General Election will be certified on November 26<sup>th<\/sup>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second count of returns for the 2019 General Election have been released by the Yakima County Auditor\u2019s office, and the results have not changed much from the first count of ballots on election night.
