The plan helps guide long-range land\nuse policy in urban areas by establishing a community vision for effectively\nmanaging growth over a twenty-year period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adopted by the Yakima City Council in 2017, the Yakima\nUrban Area Comprehensive Plan 2040 addresses issues including, among others,\nthe preservation of natural resources, ensuring adequate levels of public\nservices are provided, protecting historic land, sites, and structures,\nencouraging sustainable economic development, and retaining open space while\nalso developing recreational opportunities. Those objectives are accomplished\nthrough zoning, permitting, and the implementation of other regulatory controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State law allows community members to request amendments to\nthe Comprehensive Plan annually. The City of Yakima Planning Commission will\nformally open this year\u2019s Comprehensive Plan community member amendment process\nduring its meeting at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26<sup>th<\/sup> in the\nCouncil Chambers at Yakima City Hall, 129 North 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amendment applications will be made available starting that\nsame day from the City\u2019s Planning Division, which is located on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\nfloor of City Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications, along with a non-refundable $1,250 filing fee\n(fees for an accompanying Rezone,\nEnvironmental Review, or project specific land use application will be required\nas applicable), have to be received by the Planning Division by 5:00 p.m.\non April 30<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Yakima-Comp-Plan-Amendment-Update-News-Release.pdf\">Yakima-Comp-Plan-Amendment-Update-News-Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Yakima-Comp-Plan-Amendment-Update-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Under the Washington State Growth Management Act, local governments in the state have to adopt, regularly amend, and periodically update an Urban Area Comprehensive Plan.
