{"id":846,"date":"2013-07-11T12:51:13","date_gmt":"2013-07-11T19:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=846"},"modified":"2013-07-11T13:17:19","modified_gmt":"2013-07-11T20:17:19","slug":"safety-concerns-prompt-action-on-naches-avenue-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/safety-concerns-prompt-action-on-naches-avenue-trees\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety Concerns Prompt Action on Naches Avenue Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Old age has caught up with a number of century-old trees that line the historic Naches Avenue Parkway in Downtown Yakima.\u00a0 A total of eight trees are slated to be removed and another seven will be trimmed to prevent damage from falling tree limbs during high winds.<\/p>\n<p>The action was prompted by an incident in early June, in which a large tree limb fell and damaged a parked car along Naches\u00a0Avenue.\u00a0 Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident generated concern about the condition of other trees along Naches Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The Naches Avenue Parkway is part of the City\u2019s parks system.\u00a0 After a review by Senske Lawn &amp; Tree Care, the Yakima Parks &amp; Recreation Division received a recommendation to have eight trees along the parkway removed and to have seven others significantly trimmed.\u00a0 Senske estimated the cost of the work would be $15,600.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the tree work will be on South Naches\u00a0Avenue and is slated to begin on Monday, July 15<sup>th<\/sup>.
