{"id":8467,"date":"2020-03-09T15:37:38","date_gmt":"2020-03-09T22:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=8467"},"modified":"2020-03-16T08:45:49","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T15:45:49","slug":"business-licensing-process-changing-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/business-licensing-process-changing-in-april\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Licensing Process Changing in April"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A change is in the works for\nbusiness license applications and renewals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Business license applications and\nrenewals for local municipalities will be through the Washington State\nDepartment of Revenue (DOR) beginning April 2<sup>nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DOR business license\napplication is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/dor.wa.gov\/open-business\">https:\/\/dor.wa.gov\/open-business<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General information about\nbusiness licensing through DOR is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/dor.wa.gov\/manage-business\">https:\/\/dor.wa.gov\/manage-business<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>March 20<sup>th<\/sup> is the last day the City of\nYakima can accept an application at the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor counter at City\nHall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBusiness owners\nwill need to apply for city business licenses through the state program starting\nApril 2<sup>nd<\/sup>,\u201d said Code Administration Manager Glenn Denman. \u201cThey\nwill no longer file those applications or renewals at Yakima City Hall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change is the result of House Bill 2005, which the state legislature approved in 2017. It requires transferring business license applications to the state&#8217;s Business Licensing System (BLS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe BLS\nsimplifies the application process,\u201d said Denman. \u201cBusiness owners can apply\nfor and renew their State business license as well as their local\njurisdictional licenses through one application instead of having to go through\nmany application processes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima City Council amended Yakima Municipal Code Title 5 during its March 3rd meeting to follow the new state law, RCW 35.90.020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new system, business licenses expire on\nthe anniversary of their issue date rather than the first of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denman recommends allowing at least two weeks to\nprocess business license applications and renewals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call 575-6126 or e-mail <a href=\"mailto:codes@yakimawa.gov\">codes@yakimawa.gov<\/a> for more\nabout changes in the business license process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DOR office in Yakima is located at 3703 River\nRoad, Suite 3.
