{"id":847,"date":"2013-07-11T12:46:41","date_gmt":"2013-07-11T19:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=847"},"modified":"2013-07-11T12:49:17","modified_gmt":"2013-07-11T19:49:17","slug":"free-music-and-movies-back-in-yakima-parks-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/free-music-and-movies-back-in-yakima-parks-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Music and Movies Back in Yakima Parks This Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three great Yakima summer traditions that offer free, family-friendly entertainment in two of Yakima\u2019s parks have returned for another season this year.<\/p>\n<p>The 2013 <i>Summer Sunset Concert Series<\/i> at Franklin Park will feature mostly Northwest-based performers every Friday evening from July 12<sup>th<\/sup> through August 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 While the series has long been held at Franklin Park, this year musicians will get to enjoy performing in the new Yakima Sunrise Rotary Pavillion, which was dedicated in June.<\/p>\n<p><i>Summer Sunset Concert Series<\/i> performances run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and the shows are free to attend.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s concert series lineup includes folk group <i>The Village Musicians <\/i>on July 12<sup>th<\/sup>, folk artist <i>Camille Bloom<\/i> on July 26<sup>th<\/sup>, <i>Gypsy Soul<\/i> with its Americana style on August 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, the blues sounds of <i>Rod Giles<\/i> on August 9<sup>th<\/sup>, folk\/rock\/blues performer <i>Ian McFeron<\/i> on August 16th, and the Reggae beats of <i>Adrian Xavier<\/i> on August 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The <i>Yakima Valley Community Band Concert Series<\/i> began its 2013 run of six free performances at Randall Park on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of July.\u00a0 For the rest of the season, the Yakima Valley Community Band will perform every Wednesday through August 7<sup>th<\/sup>. <i>Yakima Valley Community Band Concert Series<\/i> performances start at 7:00 pm and usually last about an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert Park will host this year\u2019s free <i>Outdoor Cinema Series<\/i>, which will feature nearly-new releases every Sunday from July 14<sup>th<\/sup> through August 18<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The lineup of movies this season includes <i>Rise of the Guardians <\/i>(PG)<i> <\/i>on July 14<sup>th<\/sup>, <i>Wreck-It Ralph<\/i> (PG) on July 21<sup>st<\/sup>, <i>The Lorax <\/i>(PG) on July 28<sup>th<\/sup>, <i>Twilight \u2013 Breaking Dawn Part 2 <\/i>(PG-13) on August 4<sup>th<\/sup>, <i>The Boom <\/i>(PG-13) on August 11<sup>th<\/sup>, and <i>Madagascar <\/i>(PG-13) on August 18<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 <i>Outdoor Cinema Series<\/i> movies begin at sunset, which during the summer is usually around 8:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The projector and screen used for the <i>Outdoor Cinema Series<\/i> are provided by a grant from the Yakima Valley Community Foundation through Allied Arts.\u00a0 Yakima Pediatric Dentistry is the presenting sponsor for the series.\u00a0 Movie partners for the series include Elliott Insurance, BOR Architecture, Tri-Valley Construction, and Russell Crane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll three of these great series have become summertime traditions in Yakima,\u201d said YakimaParks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re really proud to be able to provide this kind of quality, free entertainment for the community.\u00a0 We couldn\u2019t do it without the support of our sponsors.\u00a0 They deserve a lot of credit for helping keep these series going,\u201d said Wilkinson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211; end \u2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Summer-Concerts-and-Outdoor-Movies-News-Release1.pdf\">Summer Concerts and Outdoor Movies &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>YakimaParks &amp; Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson \u2013 576-6416<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><b>Communications &amp; Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler \u2013 901-1142<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three great Yakima summer traditions that offer free, family-friendly entertainment in two of Yakima\u2019s parks have returned for another season this year.
