<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe most potent defense against\nCOVID-19 currently available is limiting interaction with other people,\u201d said\nYakima Mayor Patricia Byers.&nbsp; \u201cIt is the\nresponsibility of each of us to do our part, follow the orders from the Health\nDistrict and Governor Inslee, and help \u2018flatten the curve\u2019 of COVID-19\ntransmissions so that our healthcare facilities are not overwhelmed.&nbsp; For now, we all need to adopt the mantra, \u2018Stay\nHome-Stay Healthy\u2019,\u201d said Byers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The orders are not Shelter in\nPlace orders.&nbsp; Under the Stay at Home\norders, people are allowed to leave home to buy groceries, gas, medicine and\nother necessary supplies.&nbsp; The food\nsupply remains strong, and overbuying food or other supplies now may negatively\naffect the ability of other people to get food and other supplies when they\nneed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enforcement of the orders is\nprimarily the responsibility of the Yakima Health District and state public\nhealth officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While City-owned facilities have\nbeen closed to public access, the City is continuing to provide all\nservices.&nbsp; Community members are\nencouraged to look at the City\u2019s website to find online, telephone, and other\navailable options to conduct business with the City during the COVID-19\nemergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe water supply is at full\nstrength, the wastewater system is operating normally, and the fire department\nand police department are continuing to respond to incidents as usual,\u201d said\nInterim City Manager Alex Meyerhoff.&nbsp;\n\u201cThe City\u2019s finances are stable.&nbsp;\nThe City is coordinating its efforts with those of other agencies to\nensure City services continue to be provided uninterrupted,\u201d said Meyerhoff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A variety of community services\nthat are available from local non-profits and other organizations can be\naccessed by calling 2-1-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is certainly a challenging time,\u201d said Byers.\u00a0 \u201cBut it\u2019s also a time to be kind to one another, look after one another, and do all we can as individuals and a community to meet the challenge.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional information will be provided regarding the City\u2019s response to the COVID-19 emergency as necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/City-Strongly-Urges-People-to-Follow-Stay-at-Home-Orders-News-Release.pdf\">City-Strongly-Urges-People-to-Follow-Stay-at-Home-Orders-News-Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/City-Strongly-Urges-People-to-Follow-Stay-at-Home-Orders-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yakima is strongly urging community members to follow the Stay at Home orders that have been issued by both Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and the Yakima Health District.&nbsp;
