{"id":8810,"date":"2020-05-06T10:25:52","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T17:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=8810"},"modified":"2020-05-06T10:27:42","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T17:27:42","slug":"yakima-airport-receives-federal-cares-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/yakima-airport-receives-federal-cares-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Yakima Airport Receives Federal CARES Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field (YKM) has qualified for nearly $1.3 million in federal funds through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima City Council voted to apply and accept the grant funds during its regular meeting last night, Tuesday, May 5<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) estimates YKM\u2019s grant total will be $1,286,003. It is part of an approximately $10 billion federal funding package for airports to provide economic assistance in response to COVID-19 economic impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFiscal sustainability will be our first priority for these grant funds,\u201d Yakima Airport Director Robert Peterson said. \u201cDuring the COVID-19 pandemic various transportation sectors have witnessed unprecedented decreases in business activities. Airport revenues received from these sectors have already decreased as passengers follow stay-at-home recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAirports are a critical component to the nation\u2019s economy and the CARES Act funds will have a positive effect on our airport as we recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d Peterson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field is one of 62 airports in Washington state slated to receive CARES Act funds.
