{"id":8918,"date":"2020-06-02T18:45:33","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T01:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=8918"},"modified":"2020-06-03T09:47:42","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T16:47:42","slug":"yakima-city-council-ratifies-face-mask-proclamation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/yakima-city-council-ratifies-face-mask-proclamation\/","title":{"rendered":"Yakima City Council Ratifies Face Mask Proclamation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During its regular meeting tonight, Tuesday, June 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, the Yakima City Council ratified a proclamation by Mayor Patricia Byers that recommends community members wear face masks to assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19. The proclamation and recommendation are in place through Tuesday, July 7<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, the Yakima Health District (YHD) issued a directive calling on Yakima County residents to wear a face covering while at any indoor or outdoor public space where they may be within 6 feet of someone who is not in their household. That particular directive takes effect tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with YHD\u2019s directive, the Mayor\u2019s proclamation is not an order. There are no criminal, civil or financial penalties associated with failure to comply. Residents are asked to comply in order to educate, encourage and persuade others to wear face coverings. By wearing face coverings, you are protecting others and they are protecting you from possible exposure to COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning Monday, June 8<sup>th<\/sup>, employers in Washington state are required to provide face masks for their employees and to post signs encouraging the public to wear face masks. Gov. Jay Inslee announced the requirement during a news conference last Friday, May 29<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Inslee\u2019s stay-at-home orders expired on Monday, June 1<sup>st<\/sup>.
