{"id":927,"date":"2013-08-02T10:12:43","date_gmt":"2013-08-02T17:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=927"},"modified":"2013-08-02T10:13:02","modified_gmt":"2013-08-02T17:13:02","slug":"yakima-fire-department-receives-national-recognition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/yakima-fire-department-receives-national-recognition\/","title":{"rendered":"Yakima Fire Department Receives National Recognition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A life and death rescue of a man trapped inside a burning mobile home in West Valley last fall has received national attention.\u00a0 The Yakima Fire Department (\u201cYFD\u201d) and firefighters from Engine 92 and Engine 293 recently received a 2012 Heroism and Community Service Award from Firehouse Magazine for their bravery and quick response.<\/p>\n<p>The national publication receives hundreds of nominations from across the country annually and only presents a limited number of awards each year.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a call on October 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2012 in the 7600 block of Nob Hill Boulevard, firefighters were alerted that a man was still inside a doublewide mobile home that was quickly becoming engulfed in flames.\u00a0 Firefighters made their way into the burning mobile home and found the man trapped in a back bedroom.\u00a0 The YFD firefighters used a chain saw to cut out a window and pulled the 55-year old man, who was suffering from burns and smoke inhalation, to safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur firefighters utilized their ability to think quickly, their training, and their physical strength and saved a life that day,\u201d said Yakima Fire Chief Dave Willson.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re very proud of them.\u00a0 We have an excellent crew of outstanding and highly trained firefighters here in Yakima.\u00a0 This incident, and the recognition it\u2019s brought us from Firehouse Magazine, is proof of that,\u201d said Willson.<\/p>\n<p>The Yakima City Council also honored the firefighters from Engine 92 and Engine 293 with a Yakima Fire Department Commendation on November 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2012 during a Council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&#8211; end &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><b>Contact:\u00a0\u00a0 Y.F.D.
