{"id":9377,"date":"2020-08-06T16:21:12","date_gmt":"2020-08-06T23:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=9377"},"modified":"2020-08-06T16:23:13","modified_gmt":"2020-08-06T23:23:13","slug":"more-than-70-small-businesses-seeking-city-of-yakima-grant-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/more-than-70-small-businesses-seeking-city-of-yakima-grant-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 70 Small Businesses Seeking City of Yakima Grant Funds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A total of 74 small businesses in the City of Yakima are moving to the next phase of the City\u2019s $480,000 small business grant program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The money comes from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a Federal program intended to expand economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. The Yakima City Council agreed to make the funds available to the smallest businesses in the City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible businesses can receive reimbursements of up to $10,000 for expenses related to COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima County Development Association (YCDA) is assisting the City with administering the application and grant funding process. The deadline was July 31<sup>st<\/sup> for small businesses to apply. This week YCDA completed the first round of verifying the applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Yakima City Council is to be commended for setting aside these funds to help the City\u2019s smallest businesses during the COVID-19 crisis,\u201d said YCDA Executive Director Jonathan Smith. \u201cBased on YCDA\u2019s experience with the other grants we have been managing, I anticipate there will be enough dollars to fund all 74 applications.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A breakdown of the types of businesses among the 74 applicants include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>27 cosmetology\/tanning\/tattoo<\/li><li>15 Restaurant\/Bar<\/li><li>11 Service<\/li><li>5 Retail<\/li><li>5 Childcare\/Early Learning<\/li><li>4 Transportation<\/li><li>3 Automotive<\/li><li>2 Construction<\/li><li>1 Entertainment<\/li><li>1 Orchardist<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This grant program helps business owners who may have been left out of other financial assistance programs. The smaller the business, the more priority it is given.
