Summer is here and crews are busy on a number of improvements for the City of Yakima’s infrastructure. To help you know before you go, City public works projects and related traffic impacts include:

A pavement markings painting project will impact traffic on a section of Yakima Avenue for most of each morning on Monday, August 8th, and Tuesday, August 9th.

As a result of the project, Yakima Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7th Avenue to 8th Street during scheduled project work hours of 5:00 am to 11:00 am both days.

  • Yakima Ave is one lane each way between 7th Ave and 8th St on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 8th and 9th, from 5 am to 11 am. Traffic restrictions are due to a pavement markings painting project.
  • There are temporary closures of S. Naches Road at Powerhouse Road due to Nelson Dam removal project. Click Nelson Dam project | Media (yakimawa.gov) for details and scheduled closures.
  • Upgrading traffic signals along Yakima Avenue. A total of 11 signals will be upgraded this summer, typically each Wednesday morning. Traffic will be one lane each way at the intersection as each signal is upgraded. Stop signs will be posted at the 4-way stop during the signal projects.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones is 20 mph.

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the areas if necessary.

As always, schedules for these types of projects are subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
