The museum has a superb collection of horse-drawn vehicles, from stagecoach to hearse; an historical exhibit and reconstruction of the Washington D.C. office of former Yakima resident and environmentalist, Supreme Court Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yvmuseum.org\/william-o-douglas\">William O. Douglas<\/a>; and a changing schedule of <a href=\"http:\/\/yakimavalleymuseum.org\">special exhibitions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2105 Tieton Drive<br \/>\nYakima, WA 98902<\/p>\n<p>509.248.0747<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nprymuseum.org\/\">Yakima Valley Rail and Steam Museum<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nprymuseum.org\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-124\" title=\"nprym\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/visit\/assets\/nprym.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"154\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>In 1989 a group of rail fans approached the city and the railroad about leasing the depot as a railroad museum.\u00a0 The Yakima Valley Rail and Steam Museum Association (YVR&amp;S) was formed to accomplish this goal.\u00a0 With the city&#8217;s help the depot was leased in 1990.\u00a0 The Fort Simcoe Job Corp was able to refurbish the damaged plaster ceilings.\u00a0 Many hours of volunteer work resulted in the replacement of the electrical systems, stripping of the paint from the oak trim, and the beginnings of the museum displays.\u00a0 The museum had its grand opening on July 4, 1992.\u00a0 In 1993 the depot and adjacent freight house were purchased from the Burlington Northern Railroad.\u00a0In 2000 the museum division was renamed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nprymuseum.org\/NPR%20Museum.htm\"> Northern Pacific Railway Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">10 South Asotin Avenue<br \/>\nToppenish, WA<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">509.865.1911<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are several great museums for you to visit here in Yakima!
