The Special Olympics USA Torch of Hope came to Downtown Yakima on June 27 on its way to Seattle for the opening of the 2018 games. The torch run through Yakima included a ceremony at Millennium Plaza.

The run began at 5th Avenue and Spruce Street and covered areas of Downtown that included Walnut Street and Third Street.

Mayor Kathy Coffey welcomed the Special Olympics to Yakima. There was a small gift exchange during the ceremony at Millennium Plaza, including Challenge Coins presented to the City by Robin Calloway, representing the Special Olympics from North Carolina.

At the conclusion of the torch run and ceremony, Yakima Police Officers pause for a photo with the Special Olympics USA Torch Run group.
