Yakima’s first mill, now operated by Boise Cascade, has been in operation since the early years of  the twentieth century. Currently it produces lumber and plywood. When the mill was new, logs were floated down the Yakima River and delivered to holding ponds where the freeway now skirts the mill property. Other local mills and forest products companies transform logs into lumber, corrugated boxes, and other products.
