Deferred Compensation– The City offers a voluntary deferred compensation program to set aside income to be paid at a later date.  In most cases, taxes on this income are deferred until it is dispursed. The normal contribution limit for elective deferrals to a 457 deferred compensation plan is increased to $20,500 in 2022. Employees age 50 or older may contribute up to an additional $6,500 for a total of $27,000.

Health Insurance – The City of Yakima offers a comprehensive self-insured program of medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage to eligible employees and their families. The plan is designed to provide protection for employees and their families against the high cost of health care.

Life Insurance – The City offers group term insurance for all employees other than temporary, emergency, provisional employees or employees who work less than 20 hours per week. This coverage provides insurance in varying amounts depending on one’s bargaining unit and may be converted to a private policy upon termination.

Worker’s Compensation – With the exception of some members of the Police and Fire departments, all employees of the City are covered by Workers’ Compensation. In the event you are injured on the job you may use sick leave to be paid full salary while in a time loss status. In July, 1984 the City became self insured for Workers’ Compensation
