Parks and Recreation employees Juan Ramos and Brandon Smith hit the layer of volcanic ash now buried about 2 and ½ feet under the surface while repairing an irrigation line. 36 years ago tons upon tons of Mt St Helens ash were dumped at the area now known as Chesterly Park following the 1980 eruption.
