66th Avenue Between Englewood and Scenic Closed Due to Road Damage

The section of 66th Avenue between Englewood Avenue and Scenic Drive is closed to all traffic, except residents living along that section of 66th, and will remain closed until further notice.  Signs indicating the closure are in place now and will remain in place until the restriction is lifted.

The section of 66th between Englewood and Scenic Drive has suffered significant damage due to winter weather, which cannot be repaired until Yakima area asphalt plants return to full production in the spring.  Last week, the City closed that section of 66th to heavy truck traffic in an attempt to maintain the roadway as best as possible.

However, wet soil conditions caused by snow runoff in recent days has contributed to roadway instability.  In an abundance of caution, 66th between Englewood and Scenic Drive will only be open to local traffic until it can be fully repaired.

Asphalt plants significantly reduce operations during winter due to limited demand for their product.  As a result, not enough asphalt is currently available to make all of the necessary repairs to the damaged section of 66th.   Once asphalt plants are back up and running at full speed, necessary repairs will be made to the section of 66th between Englewood and Scenic Drive.

For additional information about this temporary traffic restriction on portions of 66th Avenue, contact Streets and Traffic Operations Manager Joe Rosenlund at 576-6430.
