Air Stagnation Advisory Issued for Yakima Area

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an air stagnation advisory for the Yakima area that is in effect through 12:00 pm on Friday, November 30th.

The advisory was issued this morning, Wednesday, due to a surface inversion that is allowing pollutants to become trapped.

Poor air quality may cause issues for those with respiratory problems, the NWS said in its advisory. As a result, those with respiratory illness are advised to follow their physician’s advice for dealing with potentially high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air.

The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency has issued a Stage 1 Burn Ban. As a result, only EPA-certified devices (wood, pellet stoves and inserts) may be used. All outdoor burning is banned countywide.
