City Council to Consider Grant/Loan Application for Development

The Yakima City Council will consider an application seeking funds from Yakima County to help install utilities for a new brewery and tap room under development.

Council will review the application tomorrow during its regular business meeting at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 3rd.

Valley Brewing Company is planning a brewery and tap room at 3215 River Road. It is expected to employ seven people initially and add to the city’s craft beverage industry. The Council will consider an application to Yakima County’s Supporting Investments in Economic Development (SIED) Board for a grant and loan package to extend water and sewer utilities to the site.

Extending water and sewer to 3215 River Road would “… also bring infrastructure to neighboring properties for future economic activities,” said Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins.

The City of Yakima will have no cash commitment if the SIED application is awarded. The owners of Valley Brewing Company would pay the loan portion back to the City of Yakima through an agreement using their property as collateral.
