A City of Yakima official was sworn in yesterday, Tuesday, April 21st, as a board member of the Washington Public Treasurers Association (WPTA).
Director of Finance & Budget Steve Groom was appointed to the state board during its annual meeting yesterday, which was held by teleconference. The term of office is two years.
Groom was invited to the board due to his previous certifications and years of committee work with the California Municipal Treasurers Association.
He served as chief financial officer (CFO) of three government agencies over 15 years in California and Texas before coming to Yakima in 2018. Groom routinely reviews city investment policies in Washington and city budgets nationwide.
The City of Yakima’s cash and investment balances are typically around $95 million to $100 million.
In 2019, the WPTA recognized the City’s investment policy with a Certificate of Excellence. The award calls the City’s investment policy “an exemplary model for other cities.”
