City Water Treatment Plant Back in Service

The City of Yakima’s Naches River Water Treatment Plant is back in service.

Thundershowers in the Cascades this past week created extremely high turbidity (dirty water) in the Naches River, causing the Naches River Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to temporarily shut down operation. Domestic water supply was being provided from the City’s four wells. Nob Hill Water Association also helped by providing some additional water through a system intertie.

Weather in the Cascades has cleared, with no additional thundershowers over the past day. This led to improved water quality in the Naches River, allowing the WTP to resume operations.

“The City’s request for customers to conserve domestic water this past week was well received and made a big difference in helping us through the temporary situation,” said Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane. “We appreciate the community’s response.”

Though recent turbidity issues with the Naches River are resolved, the City of Yakima asks community members to continue being aware of their water usage and make every drop count during what is anticipated to be a drier than usual summer.
