City of Yakima offices and most non-emergency services will close Thursday, June 19th, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Closures include City Hall, the Public Works office, Y-PAC office, Washington Fruit Community Center and Harman Center.
Business offices for the police and fire departments will be closed. Emergency services will remain available. Yakima Municipal Court will be closed for the holiday.
Yakima Transit will not provide bus service on June 19th. Garbage pick-up will not be delayed, but the Refuse Division office will be closed June 19th.
City of Yakima pools will be open June 19th. These include Lions Pool, Franklin Pool and the new Aquatic Center at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, which is scheduled to open following a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00 pm on June 19th.
During its meeting on June 3rd, the Yakima City Council issued a Juneteenth Week Proclamation.
Local events are planned to mark Juneteenth, including a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 14th, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The event will be preceded by a Freedom Ride Caravan at 11:00 am Saturday. It begins at Central Lutheran Church, 1604 West Yakima Avenue, and ends at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
