Community Christmas Tree Sought for Downtown Yakima

The City of Yakima and the Downtown Association of Yakima are seeking nominations for this year’s Community Christmas Tree. Residents are invited to nominate evergreen trees from their property to become the centerpiece of the holiday festivities in downtown Yakima.

Eligible trees should be well-shaped evergreens, standing 20 to 25 feet tall, with easy access for removal. The ideal tree will be situated in an area that can accommodate a 25-foot by 45-foot crane and nearby space for a 35-foot trailer.

To nominate a tree, contact Cally Price, Assistant to the City Manager, at 509-575-6040.

Nominations are open until a final selection is made during the week of Nov. 14. The selected tree will be cut and lifted by crane, not felled, ensuring a safe and efficient removal process. It will then be installed at Millennium Plaza in preparation for a special tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 1.

After a nomination is received, a representative from the Downtown Association will contact the property owner to discuss a suitable time to assess the tree and its accessibility. Tree owner whose tree is selected will not incur any costs related to the removal.

The Downtown Association of Yakima is collaborating with the City of Yakima, the Yakima Police Department, and community partners Russel Crane and Carrell Crane to coordinate the tree’s removal, transport, and installation.
