Deadline Approaching for Sunfair Parade Entries

Plans are underway for the 58th annual Sunfair Parade on Saturday, September 21st.

More than 100 entries are anticipated for this year’s parade, said Brian Campfield, president of the Yakima Sunfair Festival Association.

“We’ll accept up to 125 applications,” Campfield said. “The drop-dead deadline for entry applications is September 10th.

The Sunfair Parade route is unchanged from previous years, he said. The two-mile stretch will run east on Yakima Avenue from 16th Avenue to Naches Avenue. The staging area will be on 16th Avenue from Summitview Avenue to Nob Hill Boulevard. Participants are asked to arrive at the staging area by 8:00 am on Saturday, September 21st. The parade will begin at 10:00 am.

The Yakima Sunfair Festival Association also welcomes helpers to assist with staging this year’s parade. “We need volunteers,” Campfield said. “It takes people to put on a parade.”

Campfield said having enough volunteers turn out to help is the key to the Sunfair Parade’s longevity. He also praised the community’s support for the Sunfair Parade, noting thousands line the route each year to see the entries.

Sunfair Parade entry applications are available online at www.yakimasunfairparade.com. In addition, applications can be picked up and dropped off at Ron’s Coin and Books (6 North 3rd Street) and the Yakima Chamber of Commerce office (10 North 9th Street).
