Downtown Parking Community Meeting is Thursday, March 21st

The City of Yakima will host a Downtown Parking Community Meeting next Thursday, March 21st, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall, 129 N. 2nd Street.

The meeting will include a presentation by City staff regarding history and preliminary recommendations regarding four City-owned parking lots in Downtown Yakima. This is the same presentation that was made to the Yakima City Council during its March 12th study session.

Following the presentation:

  • City staff will be available to talk with community members Thursday in small group break-out sessions at City Hall about policy issues, maintenance and upgrades and enforcement of parking regulations in the four City-owned parking lots in Downtown Yakima.
  • Input and feedback received during the community meeting will be incorporated into final recommendations regarding parking in the four City-owned downtown Yakima parking lots. Those final recommendations will be presented to City Council at its March 26th study session.
  • The Council is tentatively scheduled to act on final recommendations regarding parking in the four City-owned lots in Downtown Yakima at its April 2nd regular meeting, although the schedule could be adjusted based on Council direction.

The City staff presentation will air live at 5:30 pm Thursday on Y-PAC, Charter Spectrum Channel 194, and streamed live at https://www.yakimawa.gov/council/live-stream/

A moratorium on enforcing parking violations in the downtown area of the City of Yakima has been in place since December 2023. Yakima City Council extended the moratorium during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 6th. It applies to time limitations on streets and City-owned parking lots in the Central Business District.

On January 23rd, Council held a study session on downtown parking and received public comment.
