Harman Center Closed due to Air Conditioning Issue

The City of Yakima’s Harman Center at Gailleon Park is closed until further notice due to a malfunctioning air conditioning unit.

The City is currently addressing the repair to the air conditioning unit.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an excessive heat warning that is in place through 11:00 pm tomorrow, Tuesday, July 31st.

The NWS cautions extremely hot temperatures, expected to top 100 degrees both today and tomorrow, could create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Officials advise residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Options the City offers for beating the heat include Lions Pool (509 West Pine Avenue) and Franklin Pool (2101 Tieton Drive). Both pools are open for recreational swimming and other aquatic programs, such as adult water fitness classes and lap swims. Call 575-6046 or visit https://yakimaparks.com/aquatics/ for pool schedules and additional details.

In addition, the City of Yakima’s Miller Park (502 North 4th Street) and Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (on the corner of South 8th Street and East Race Street) both offer free splash pads.
