Mexican Consulate Presents Festival Focused on Cross-Cultural Exchange

Starting on Sunday, September 10th, the Mexican Consulate in Seattle will host the MEX AM Northwest Festival, a week-long event aimed at uniting Mexico and the United States through business, music, food, visual arts, digital art, and presentations by experts in those various fields.

The event will take place throughout Seattle and will include art and film exhibitions, food, wine, and coffee tastings, musical performances, and lectures on various topics.  Of particular interest to the Yakima area is the festival’s focus on growing business opportunities between Washington State and Mexico.

“Mexico is the single largest importer of apples grown in Washington State,” said Yakima City Manager Cliff Moore.  “Many of the apples exported to Mexico are grown right here in the Yakima Valley.  Our Valley is also one of the largest dairy producing areas in the nation and Mexico is the number one market for Washington dairy products,” said Moore.  “Mexico offers an outstanding opportunity that Yakima-area businesses can benefit from and the MEX AM Northwest Festival will showcase that.”

As part of the festival, a business fair will take place on September 12th and 13th in the Microsoft Auditorium at the Seattle Central Library (1000 4th Avenue).  The business fair will include multiple panel discussions about investing in the Mexican market, building partnerships between Mexican and U.S. businesses, and innovative collaborations as well as several opportunities for business leaders from both countries to talk face-to-face.

“I am extremely excited about the first-ever MEX AM Northwest Festival,” said Dr. Roberto Dondisch, Consul of Mexico in Seattle.  “Regardless what your passion is, learning more about business opportunities, eating delicious Mexican food, or kicking back with a glass of wine, you’ll find it at the MEX AM Northwest Festival.  I am certain that the festival will help build bridges of understanding between all Washingtonians and the nearly 800,000 people of Mexican heritage who call Washington State home, particularly those living in Eastern Washington,” said Dondisch.
