Effective today, Monday, North 4th Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue is permanently closed to through traffic.
The Yakima City Council on June 18th approved a request submitted on behalf of the Catholic Bishop of Yakima to vacate North 4th Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and E. Lincoln Avenue.
Council action followed the Hearing Examiner’s recommendation issued on April 22nd that the right-of-way be vacated pending City Council approval.
The request was submitted to provide safety to students, staff, parishioners and others crossing the street from St. Joseph-Marquette school and church campus on the west side of N. 4th Street to the newly constructed gymnasium on the east side of the street.
