Effective today, Monday, North 4^th Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue is permanently closed to through traffic.

The Yakima City Council on June 18^th approved a request submitted on behalf of the Catholic Bishop of Yakima to vacate North 4^th Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and E. Lincoln Avenue.

Council action followed the Hearing Examiner’s recommendation issued on April 22^nd that the right-of-way be vacated pending City Council approval.

The request was submitted to provide safety to students, staff, parishioners and others crossing the street from St. Joseph-Marquette school and church campus on the west side of N. 4th Street to the newly constructed gymnasium on the east side of the street.
