New Tuesday Night Downtown Yakima Farmers Market Launched

Now there is another great reason to come and spend time in Downtown Yakima.  The popular Yakima Farmer’s Market is expanding to include a Tuesday night event in the heart of the city.

Starting July 23rd, the Yakima Farmer’s Market will be open each Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:30 pm and will be located behind the Capitol Theatre on South 4th Street.  While smaller in size than the long running and successful Sunday Yakima Farmers Market, organizers are confident the Tuesday Farmer’s Market will become a Downtown draw because it will have plenty of the same outstanding elements people have come to enjoy from the Sunday market.

“We expect the event to fill 4th Street between Yakima Avenue and Chestnut Avenue,” said Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins.  “The response from the Farmer’s Market vendors has been tremendous.  They are very excited about the Tuesday market,” said Hawkins.  “And community members we’ve heard from are equally excited to have another day that they can get fresh fruits and vegetables directly from the people who grow them.”

In addition to offering the expected seasonal agricultural products, the Tuesday Yakima Farmer’s Market will also feature arts and crafts, homemade jellies and jams, handcrafted soaps and candles, and many other items from by local vendors.   Food booths will also line the street and live music will resonate through out the event.

The Tuesday Yakima Farmer’s Market is expected to run through September 24th.  Free parking will be available for market visitors after 5:00 pm in the Tower building parking lot located between 4th Street and Naches Avenue and can be accessed by drivers from its entrance off Naches Avenue.

The Tuesday Yakima Farmer’s Market is another of several Downtown Yakima summertime events that the City has launched this year as part of its revitalization efforts in the core of the city.

The Lunchtime Live Concert Series features local and regional artists every Friday at PerformancePark on the corner of A Street and 2nd Street from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm.  The Lunchtime Live series will run through August 30th.  The Downtown Summer Nights Concert Series offers the opportunity to enjoy local, regional, and nationally renowned performers every Thursday evening from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The Downtown Summer Nights events, which will run through August 29th, are held on 4th Street in the same space where the Tuesday Yakima Farmer’s Market will be staged.
