Outage for N. 1st Street and Lincoln Ave Signal

The traffic signal at North 1st Street and Lincoln Avenue is out due to work on Phase 3 of the North 1st Street revitalization project. During the outage, the signal has been replaced by large stop signs at the intersection.

Traffic signals typically flash red at all intersections within the Phase 3 project area, N. 1st Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to I Street.

Power to the Lincoln Avenue signal was cut because the meter controlling that signal had to be removed during Phase 3 construction. “The contractor is in communication with Pacific Power to re-route power from another source,” said Traffic Operations Supervisor Dan Nickoloff. “However, the timeframe for rerouting power is indefinite. It could be a while before that happens.”

The North 1st Street revitalization project is intended to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians. It includes reconstructing North 1st Street roadway, rebuilding sidewalks, installing new lighting, building new median islands, redirecting utility lines and enhancing landscaping.

Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
