Swimmers both human and canine are invited to the annual Paws in the Pool event from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 24th, at the City of Yakima’s Franklin Pool, 2101 Tieton Drive.
Yakima Parks and Recreation organizes the event for dogs and their owners each summer at Franklin Pool. Dogs swim for free but their owners pay the general admission fee.
- All dog breeds, shapes and sizes are welcome.
- Pet owners must make sure their dogs are current on all shots and vaccinations.
- They are also responsible for cleaning up any messes their dogs make.
- No vicious or aggressive dogs are permitted.
- Dogs must be leashed until inside the pool area.
During Paws in the Pool, donations will be accepted for the Yakima Humane Society.

August 24th is the last day of operation at Franklin Pool not only for this summer, but for the foreseeable future. On July 24th the Yakima City Council agreed to close Franklin Pool in 2026 as part of a $3 million cost-cutting package to help address a projected $9 million shortfall.
