Phase 3 Begins for 72nd and Washington Roundabout Construction

The next phase of the 72nd Avenue and Washington Avenue roundabout project begins Monday, July 28th.

This third phase will require closing the intersection to all traffic 24/7 from July 28th through September 12th. Detours will be provided via Nob Hill Boulevard, 64th Avenue and Occidental Road.

The closure will allow for underground work and paving to occur with the least amount of disruption to the public as possible.

Traffic is expected to have full access to the completed roundabout on September 12th, two months ahead of the original schedule of mid-November.

Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area as necessary.

Drivers are asked to follow all detours and traffic laws to ensure safety.

Traffic delays in the project area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Roundabout construction at 72nd and Washington is funded entirely by state grants. The first of four phases on this project began June 16th. Phase 2 began June 30th, with Phase 3 scheduled to start July 28th.

Updated traffic alerts will be posted on City of Yakima communications platforms, including the City website and social media accounts.
