The City of Yakima and Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) are seeking nominations for this year’s Community Christmas Tree. Residents are invited to nominate evergreen trees from their property to become the centerpiece of the holiday festivities in downtown Yakima.
Eligible trees should be well-shaped evergreens, standing 15 to 25 feet tall, with easy access for removal. The ideal tree will be situated in an area that can accommodate a 25-foot by 45-foot crane and nearby space for a 35-foot trailer.
Nominations are open. A final selection will be made by Friday, Nov. 14. The selected tree will be cut and lifted by crane, not felled, ensuring a safe and efficient removal process. It will then be installed at Millennium Plaza in preparation for a special tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7.
DAY is collaborating with the City of Yakima Public Works Department, Yakima Police Department, and community partners Russel Crane and Carrell Crane to coordinate the tree’s removal, transport and installation.
To nominate a tree, please contact Cally Price, Assistant to the City Manager, at 509-575-6040.
After a nomination is received, a DAY representative will contact the tree owner to discuss a suitable time to assess the tree and its accessibility.
The tree owner of the selected tree will not incur any costs related to the removal.
For further information, please contact DAY at 509-571-1328 or email events@downtownyakima.com.
