Work is underway to change Lewis Avenue from a two-way street to a one-way street southbound between Lincoln Avenue and Folsom Avenue.
Crews are changing and installing new signage today, Thursday, September 12th, and tomorrow. It is anticipated that the section of Lewis Avenue will be a one-way street by Friday, September 13th.
Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
The Yakima City Council approved the Lewis Avenue change during its meeting on July 16th.
The change to one-way traffic southbound on Lewis Avenue between Lincoln Avenue and Folsom Avenue was prompted by recent housing developments in the area. Revising it to a one-way street will improve pedestrian and traffic safety.
