Sidewalk Improvement Project to Impact Traffic

A “Complete Streets” project to improve sidewalks will impact traffic through next month.

This week, a crew from Belsaas and Smith Construction is beginning the sidewalk project on Viola Avenue between 10th Avenue and 4th Avenue. The area will be accessible only to residents during the work hours of 7:00 am to 4:00 pm each week day.

Future sidewalk improvement areas in this project include Swan Avenue from about 13th Avenue to Campbell Lane and Race Street from Naches Avenue to 7th Avenue.

The project will include construction of sidewalks, curb and gutter, as well as installation of ADA-compliant ramps.

It is anticipated the project will be completed by the end of January 2020.

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

The project may cause interruptions in scheduled refuse collection. Contact the City of Yakima Refuse Division at 575-6005 for more information.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

For more information about the project, contact Construction Supervisor Bruce Floyd at 575-6138 or Design Engineer Randy Tabert at 576-6579.
