Street Closures Planned for Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration March

Motorists will find sections of some streets temporarily closed Monday, January 20th, for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration March.

The march will begin Monday at 12:00 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and North 5th Avenue. From there, it will proceed east on the boulevard to 8th Street. Participants will then head south on 8th Street to the Yakima Convention Center, 10 North 8th Street.

Organizers will begin setting up at 11:00 am Monday. The march is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm and organizers anticipate it will end at 1:00 pm.

Rolling street closures are planned along the parade route. Yakima Police Department officers will manage the temporary closures as participants make their way through each block along the march route.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed from North 5th Avenue to North 8th Street. Eighth Street will be closed from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Yakima Avenue.

The march and related activities will honor the slain civil rights leader.

It is open to the public. Organizers anticipate more than 400 participants.
