City of Yakima crews are at work sweeping each day to remove winter gravel from City streets. The street sweeping program began about a month ago.

“Due to the severity of the winter, there is more of a sand/gravel mix left on the street after the snow melts,” said Streets & Traffic Manager Joe Rosenlund. “City street crews have nearly completed sweeping the main arterials and are starting on neighborhood streets.”

“The City is using six to eight sweepers, but it is a time consuming process. Please be patient, we will get to your neighborhood as soon as we can,” Rosenlund said.

The schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily depending on City Refuse Division schedules, as well as weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
