The first phase of a four-phase project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of 72nd Avenue and Washington Avenue will begin Monday, June 16th.
Beginning at 6:00 am on Monday, the intersection will be closed to all commercial trucks. A detour will be provided on 64th Avenue, with signage posted. The closure to commercial trucks will be in place 24/7.
The intersection will remain open to other vehicles, however on-site traffic control will be in place based on the project’s different phases. For example, the first phase will require temporary lane closures while the third and fourth phases will require temporary closure to all traffic south of Washington Avenue.
Work is scheduled to be complete in November. Updated traffic alerts will be posted on City of Yakima communications platforms, including the City website and social media accounts.
Access will be maintained to properties in the project area.
Traffic delays in the project area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
The $1.47 million project is funded by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board and money appropriated by the Washington State Legislature.
Corbin Construction, Inc. of Pasco is the project contractor.
