Water Project Continues on South 1st Street, East Mead Avenue

A project to replace the existing water main and water utility services on South 1st Street and East Mead Avenue will continue on Monday, August 9th.

The project includes replacing an aging and undersized water line and water services along South 1st Street south of East Mead Avenue, and along East Mead Avenue between South 1st Street and South Fair Avenue.

The project contractor, Ken Leingang Excavating, Inc. of Yakima, will begin testing the new water line Monday, August 9th, and begin placing the new waterline into service later in the week.

Activities may impact access to properties on South 1st Street and on East Mead Avenue periodically throughout the project area and may cause some minor inconvenience.

Traffic restrictions will continue on East Mead Avenue and South 1st Street during project work hours of 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.

At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during construction.

The project is expected to be completed by late August.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily depending on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
