Fuchsia Dunlop, an award-winning author of books on Chinese cuisine, sat for a Q&A with area media yesterday, Wednesday, February 28th just moments before she took the Capitol Theatre stage for her appearance at the Yakima Town Hall Speaker Series.
The City of Yakima’s Public Affairs Channel, Y-PAC Channel 194, will air the interview in its entirety at 8:00 pm this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 2-4. Dunlop’s interview will also air at 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

“From the age of about 11 I wanted to be a chef,” Dunlop said during the interview. “My heart was always in the kitchen.”
A native of Oxford, England, Dunlop’s interest in Chinese culture and cuisine began when she was assigned to the Asia Pacific desk as a sub-editor for the BBC.
During the approximately 20-minute sit-down, Dunlop touched on topics ranging from her favorite Chinese dishes to her enjoyment of dining at local Yakima restaurants – including a lunch of Dungeness Crab Cakes – during her 2-day stay here. “I’ve been very warmly welcomed and well fed,” Dunlop said of her visit.
She also noted Chinese food is often misunderstood in this country. Dunlop said it is sophisticated, healthy, and offers “guiltless pleasures.”
The Town Hall Speaker Series will next host archeologist and National Geographic Fellow Sarah Parcak at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 21st.
