A Pilot Community Vaccination Center (CVC) opens in Yakima on March 31, at the Central Washington State Fair Park. The CVC is an easy and convenient place for eligible individuals to get their free COVID-19 vaccine. It is primarily a drive-thru vaccination center, but individuals may also walk up to the site. Eligibility is not affected by insurance coverage or immigration status.
The CVC is a joint effort partnership between Yakima Health District, Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management, Washington’s Department of Health, the Emergency Management Division, and FEMA.
As of March 31, those eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at the Yakima CVC are:
• People 60 years of age or older
• People 16 years of age or older who have 2 or more co-morbidities or underlying health conditions
• People who work in certain congregate settings—including restaurants, food services, construction, and manufacturing—and are therefore considered to be high-risk critical workers.
• People, staff, and volunteers in certain congregate living settings—including correctional facilities, group homes for people with disabilities, and settings where people experiencing homelessness live or access services.
Register for an appointment on Prep-Mod or call 1-800-525-0127, press 7 for Spanish.
The CVC will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday—Wednesday and Friday—Sunday. On Thursdays it will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Those driving should use Gate 15, and those walking on to the site should use Gate 1. For individuals needing a free ride to the Community Vaccination Center, they can call 2-1-1.
“Our sole mission is building immunity for the community,” emphasized Andre Fresco, Executive Director, Yakima Health District. “Please don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. Make an appointment when it’s your turn to register.”
In addition to the Central Washington State Fair Park site, mobile unit locations and hours will be available soon and updated on the Yakima Health District website YakimaHealthDistrict.org.
Through this partnership, vaccination capacity at this location will expand from approximately 200 vaccines per day to 1,200 vaccines per day between the fixed, drive-thru site and mobile units.
