Yakima Parks & Recreation is planning a Winter Family Hiking Adventure on Saturday, December 28th. Participants will meet in front of the City’s Public Works building, 2301 Fruitvale Boulevard, at 9:30 am. Pre-registration is required.
“This Winter Family Hiking Adventure is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond, learn and experience the great outdoors together,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ken Wilkinson. “Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, this program promises fun, education and memories to last a lifetime.”
Parks & Recreation staff are organizing the event in partnership with The Cascadians, an outdoor recreation and conservation club in Yakima.
Event details include:
- Following a brief orientation at the Public Works building, participants will carpool to a nearby trail head.
- The hike is classified as an easy walk (beginner) and family friendly.
- Distance will be between one to three miles. Participants will have options based on how far they would like to hike.
- The event is scheduled to end at 12:30 pm.
- Pets are welcome.
- Cost is $5 per participant. Registration is required at Sportsites
The hike will include eight educational stations covering the following topics: hiking apps, 13 essentials of hiking, appropriate clothing, hiking in groups, dog-friendly hiking, dangers, parking passes, emergency/SOS on iPhone.
Participants are asked to bring the following:
- Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear
- A leash and any necessary gear for your dog
- Snacks and plenty of water
- A positive attitude and a spirit of adventure!
